Kristoff St. John's ex claims she was hospitalized against her will after his death: 'I'm grieving, not crazy'

The sudden death of The Young and the Restless star Kristoff St. John at age 52 landed his ex-wife Mia St. John in the hospital — and she says it was against her will.

The boxer took to social media on Saturday to say that she was out of the hospital. “I’m sorry if I scared anyone,” wrote Mia, who was married to the soap star in the early ’90s. “Let’s plz focus on the wellness of his precious girls, referring to Paris, their daughter together, and Lola, the soap star’s daughter with his second wife, Allana Nadal. “They love their father so much, the beautiful, loving, funny soul that he was/is,” she said of the girls, who were pictured with their dad in the accompanying photo. Mia ended the post by writing, “mental health is all we have, nothing else is important.”

When some news outlets reported that Mia was out of the hospital, she retweeted a People magazine story, noting that the hospitalization was “against my will!!!!”

And when BET posted a story saying Mia claimed she was held “captive” by a “mental health hospital,” she replied, “That’s because they did… The entire #MentalHealth system needs R-E-F-O-R-M.”

Mia and her late husband had been trying to reform the mental health system since their son, Julian, died by suicide in a mental health facility in 2014. They filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the La Casa Psychiatric Health Facility the next year, claiming the facility falsified documents in order to cover up neglect. The death of their son was something Kristoff never recovered from, many of his loved ones said after his sudden death on Feb. 3. The exes started a foundation, El Saber es Poder (Knowledge Is Power), to battle mental illness after Julian died.

Mia and Kristoff St. John were working on a short film about Julian’s mental health journey:

Mia also posted on social media that she’sgrieving, not crazy.”

In other posts, she wrote, “They’re trying to send me back to mental asylum to kill my whole family.” She added, “#ImNotCrazy I just lost my beautiful boys. is there no compassion anymore??”

As well as, “I’m being held against my will & I’m not #suicidal. Yet, the hospital @kristoffstjohn1 was in KNEW he was suicidal & let him go! The one my son @Julian4Justice was in neglected him & falsified records.” She vowed “JUSTICE 4 my beautiful boys” when she got out.

Mia didn’t name which facility or provide any details about who held her against her will. Her attorney Mark Geragos, who has repped stars from Chris Brown to Winona Ryder, tells Yahoo, “It’s obviously a very trying time” for her and she’s doing well under the circumstances.” However, when asked if she had been held against her will in a mental health facility, he said, “I wouldn’t characterize it that way.” However, he added, “She was upset and understandably so.”

Mia’s posts also included old photos of Kristoff, who has been a fixture on daytime television since the early ’90s and won multiple Emmys for his portrayal of Neil Winters on Y&R, and their children.

Kristoff’s ex-wife wasn’t the only one reminiscing about him online over the weekend. His fiancée of just five months, Russian model Kseniya Mikhaleva, posted new tributes as well. “You were the light for me and for many people,” she wrote. “You were the kindest person I’ve ever met. You were a talented actor, a loving father, and a friend with a golden heart. Your soul and spirit always with me. I wish I could have been there to let you know how much you mean to me. You are deep in my heart ❤️.Im praying for your family.Rest in paradise RIP.”

She also posted a collage of photos.

Kristoff’s Y&R co-star Victoria Rowell — who played Drucilla to his Neil, a fan-favorite couple — broke down in an interview with Entertainment Tonight about him late last week.

Meanwhile, the L.A. Coroner is trying to establish a cause of death for Kristoff. Paramedics responded to a call for a possible alcohol overdose at his San Fernando Valley home on Feb. 3 at about 2 p.m. Although the autopsy has been completed, the cause of death was deferred pending additional results, including a toxicology report. His body was released, however, and TMZ reports he will be buried next to his son — though it is undetermined at this point when that will happen.

Prior to Kristoff’s death, he was reportedly in treatment at UCLA Medical Center for depression linked to his son’s death, TMZ reported. He was released days prior to his death. In 2017, around the anniversary of Julian’s death, he had reportedly been placed on 72-hour hold for psychiatric evaluation, according to the website.

Kristoff’s last episode of CBS’s Y&R aired last Wednesday — and the show paid tribute to him in an episode that aired on Friday. But fans were up in arms over the tribute. Although he had been on the show for nearly three decades, the tribute was brief — and many felt it was too short for his contribution to the series and daytime television.

Mia called out the show as well over the tribute. “Know we all are,” she wrote while retweeting the USA Today story about fans being disappointed. “Kristoff gave 30 years of his life to that show. Everyone knew he was suffering.”
