Jennifer Lopez was nervous about pole dancing in 'Hustlers': 'It was terrifying'

As you probably guessed from her daring wardrobe choices (that green dress alone!) and her mind-blowing performances, Jennifer Lopez does not get nervous. It just doesn’t happen.

Except that it did when the actress and singer stepped in front of the camera to film her first pole dancing scene in Hustlers, her upcoming movie based on the true story of former strip club workers teaming up against their clients. Lopez’s first scene required her to perform moves, which she had practiced on her own for months, in front of hundreds of extras and the crew.

“It was terrifying. Honestly,” Lopez tells Yahoo Entertainment. “When at first, I was walking onto the set, I was all ready, I had my little dental floss outfit on, and I had my robe on, I turned to my producing partner, Elaine Goldsmith-Thomas, and I said, ‘I’m a little scared. I’m nervous’ And she’s like, ‘Are you?’... I don’t get nervous. I’ve been doing this a long time, so I’m very comfortable with everything I do.”

J.Lo really was nervous, to say the least. She was actually “a little scared.”

However, the veteran dancer managed to stay confident.

“Elaine was like, ‘OK, you got this.’ And I was like, I said, ‘No, I know I got this. I know I got this, but I actually am nervous.’”

Lopez performed that scene five or six times, until she couldn’t lift her body anymore.

Her co-star Constance Wu confirms that, not surprisingly, Lopez was excellent.

Hustlers arrives in theaters Sept. 13. Visit Fandango for ticket and showtime information.
