‘The Daily Show’ defends ESPN anchor for calling Trump a white supremacist

ESPN host, Jemele Hill, found herself in the news a lot this week after tweeting out a controversial comment about Donald Trump. Jemele tweeted, “Donald Trump is a white supremacist who has largely surrounded himself w/ other white supremacists.” On The Daily Show With Trevor Noah, Roy Wood, Jr., defended Jemele’s tweet. Roy didn’t think it was that crazy of a thing to say, considering Congress just passed a unanimous bipartisan resolution asking Trump to condemn white supremacists. Roy added, “Trump is the only white dude I know who had to sign paperwork to prove he doesn't like Nazis.” After the controversial tweet, White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders made a statement condemning the tweet and said that she thought it was a “fireable offense.” Trevor Noah played devil’s advocate, saying that both women were just expressing their opinions. But Roy explained that it was where Sarah Huckabee Sanders expressed her opinion that was the problem. Roy said, “The difference was that one was on her Twitter account. The other was on a podium at the White House.” And Roy gave a pretty vivid example of why people shouldn’t express their opinions from an official position like that. “If you're standing behind a register at a Jack in the Box and you're, like, ‘Yo, my personal opinion, these burgers make your a** bleed,” Roy said, before adding, “I'm going to White Castle!”
