Colombian singer J Balvin has a Guinness World Record, and that’s not all

Just how big a deal is J Balvin? His song “Mi Gente” tells a pretty great story of his success. The video for the Colombian artist’s collaboration with Willy William has over 2 billion views on YouTube and broke a Latin video record, reaching 400 million views in less than two months. His albums are also smashing records! Vibras, released in May, became the most-streamed Latin album in 24 hours on Apple Music. Balvin’s song “Ginza” from his fourth album scored a Guinness World Record for the longest stay at No. 1 — 22 weeks! Now that’s impressive! And then there’s his A-list fan base. Having worked with everyone from Justin Bieber, to Pharrell Williams, to French Montana and even the queen herself, Beyoncé, J Balvin easily takes the crown as the king of collaborations. It was a B&B extravaganza when Beyoncé teamed up with Balvin for the “Mi Gente” remix, catapulting the song to a whole new level of popularity. “I am beyond grateful to have Queen B join us. It’s a dream come true,” J Balvin said of the match made in music heaven. His song with Nicky Jam, “X (Equis),” is also a megahit — just ask superfan Will Smith. The Fresh Prince posted a video on Instagram where he’s jamming out to the anthem and giving the artists a shout-out in Spanish. The accolades just keep on coming. J Balvin is nominated for eight Latin Grammys this year, including two Record of the Year nods for songs “X (Equis)” and “Mi Gente.” “I am so blessed. I still think of it all as a dream,” he told Rolling Stone.
