Why Chris Hemsworth Bought a Remote Home on an Australian Island

Chris Hemsworth said “bye-bye” to Tinseltown recently when he and his wife of five years, Elsa Pataky, relocated their family to his native Australia.

Now the dreamy actor is explaining why they made the move to Byron Bay in the latest issue of Parade magazine.

“In the space of three years, we had our kids and simultaneously my career was happening, and everything changed,” the 32-year-old said. “We’d leave the house and there would be six paparazzi out in front. In L.A., more than anywhere else in the world, paparazzi are everywhere, 24/7. We felt suffocated. The agitation you feel from the paparazzi rippled in the house."

While the family’s new home is far from their previous home in Malibu, the Aussie, his leading lady, and their three kids - India Rose, 3, and twins Tristan and Sasha, 1 - seem to be loving the life down under.

"It’s just a quiet little surf town with a lot of farming, an hour and a half outside of Melbourne,” he said. “There are other things in my life now-family, kids."

Chris does, however, recognize the risk he took by leaving Hollywood and the effect it may have on his career.
