Kanye West remains at UCLA Medical Center nearly a week after he was first hospitalized — and it’s still unclear when he’ll be released, a source close to the rapper tells PEOPLE.

“I know that he’s been really eager to make music and to work even from the hospital bed,” the source says.

The source says they “don’t know” when West will return home.

“He’s the hardest working person I’ve ever met in my life, the most enterprising, most driven,” the insider explains of West, 39. “It’s like super-human level, but in truth he’s not super-human, he’s only human. He wants to work 24/7 but I think that drive is part of this thing, he’s worn himself down.”

West’s hospitalization came shortly after he canceled the remainder of his Saint Pablo tour last week. At the time, another source told PEOPLE that the star was “extremely sleep deprived” and was suffering from exhaustion. He remained in the hospital over Thanksgiving, with wife Kim Kardashian West by his side.

PEOPLE’s source says that West’s mental health is “very private,” and “between him and his family.”

The source adds that Kardashian West’s robbery in October has been “added stress,” noting, “He was obviously feeling a lot of concern for what happened.”

Kardashian West’s subsequent absence from the tour was also a factor, the source says.

“[The concert is] very physically demanding,” the West confidante shares. “He’s standing on a flying stage and he’s harnessed and tethered. I think the rigors of that plus everything he’s trying to do with work and not being able to be around his family as much and being concerned for them, those all are factors.”
