What’s Going On With Justin Bieber and Hailey Baldwin, in Their Own Words

The specifics of Justin Bieber and Hailey Baldwin’s relationship have been the source of much consternation on the part of the internet for the past several months. Are they dating? Friends? Working on a secret project together? (It is almost certainly not the third.)
It should be noted, of course, that Justin Bieber is 21 and Hailey Baldwin is 19 and, if you’re being honest with yourself, how well-defined were your romantic relationships in the years before you could legally rent a car?
The two have both attempted to explain their relationship, which, to be perfectly honest, isn’t really something they owe you but then again it is nice of them to offer anyway, on multiple occasions. Here is how they describe their own connection.
In a just-released GQ profile, Selena Gomez’s ex explains that while he’s not not dating Hailey Baldwin, he’s not really in the position to get serious with someone at this point.
I ask if they’re dating, and he shakes his head emphatically, affecting a confused expression, as if he can’t possibly fathom why I would assume that he is dating the young woman in his hotel room, whom he has been photographed kissing. I ask if she is just a friend he kisses. “Uh-huh,” he says. “I guess so.” He later amends his description of Baldwin to “someone I really love. We spend a lot of time together.”
“What if Hailey ends up being the girl I’m gonna marry, right? If I rush into anything, if I damage her, then it’s always gonna be damaged,” Bieber explained further. “It’s really hard to fix wounds like that. It’s so hard.… I just don’t want to hurt her.”

Because timing’s a real, in the words of Carly Fiorina, “B-word,” Baldwin was on the red carpet Wednesday night at the amfAR Gala in New York. Pretty much everyone asked her about Justin Bieber, a man she may or may not be not not dating.
“I think it’s awesome. It wasn’t a surprise to me. I knew it was coming out,” Baldwin told E! News of the pull quotes from the GQ piece, which were released Wednesday. “We are not an exclusive couple; he’s about to go on tour. Relationships at this age are already complicated, but I don’t really like to talk about it because it’s between me and him.”
“He’s really funny. We have a good time together,” Baldwin told Entertainment Tonight. “He’s just really sweet. He’s a good kid, he has a good heart and I love him.”
Do those casual L-bombs clear everything up? No? Too bad.
