Former American Idol Contestant John Stevens Hit by Van in Massachusetts

John Stevens, a former American Idol contestant, was struck by a van while jogging in Chelsea, Massachusetts last week.

Stevens – who was later treated at Massachusetts General Hospital before being taken to Buffalo, New York to recuperate with his parents – suffered a fractured skull, broken arm and deafness in his right ear.

According to the Boston Globe, the accident occurred outside of a crosswalk, in the evening, when Stevens was jogging with ear buds in. A witness reportedly told police that the driver of the van was not speeding.

Police have reportedly decided not to bring charges against the driver.

After days of recuperation, Stevens took to Facebook to thank everyone for the well wishes.

"The staff at Mass General were above and beyond anything I could've ever asked for," Stevens wrote after recalling the incident. "My parents have taken me back to buffalo for a couple weeks to heal and recover from the accident since I won't be able to work. Thank you very much for all of the well wishes and prayers. It truly means a lot to me."
