PSA: Fixer Upper star Joanna Gaines is not leaving her HGTV television show to launch a makeup and skincare line. Got it?

The co-editor-in-chief of lifestyle magazine the Magnolia Journal posted the announcement to her 5 million Instagram followers Friday, writing, “There have been rumors floating around about me leaving the show to start a skin care/makeup line. I wanted to take a minute to let y’all know that it’s simply not true. This is a SCAM!”

She also implored her fans to help stop the rumor. “We have nothing to do with it and have been trying to stop it for some time. You can help! Please spread the word by sharing, re-posting, and/or re-tweeting this post and send any information regarding the fake news websites or sponsored ads to reporting@magnoliamarket.com.”

Gaines has trying to quash this story since April, when an article called “HGTV Nightmare: Joanna Gaines Leaves Show to Start a Cosmetic Line,” began appearing all over people’s Facebook feeds. According to People, the story, which purported to be from Cosmopolitan, claimed that Gaines had “been showing up late to the construction sites” and was promoting a skin product called Derma Folia Renewal Anti-Aging Serum. A representative for Gaines told People the story was untrue.

In an April 21 letter titled “Don’t Believe Everything You Read,” Gaines wrote on her website, “So many things are happening right now and it feels like we are moving at the speed of light. At times, it’s even hard to keep our own parents in the loop. It’s true. At this point in our career we can honestly say we’ve heard it all — from reports of us moving our family to Vegas to us having more or less children than we actually have. So remember, you can’t believe everything you read. … Always remember: If you’re reading big, exciting news about us, and we did not confirm it on our official sites, then proceed with caution.”

She added, “We are so thankful for your support — we wouldn’t be here without you! And just in case you were wondering, YES! We are currently filming season 5 of the show. No! I am not getting into the business of facial creams. And No! We are not expecting baby #5. And no worries, believing some of these stories happens to the best of us.”

Gaines’s Friday post got more than 53,000 likes in less than two hours and tons of comments from thankful fans who appreciated the “good news.”

I love to share the behind the scenes of photos because as we all know, there is always so much more going on than what is seen. (Scroll right to see more) A few months ago we went on vacation with a couple other families to Mexico and we all fell in love with this little old white car (a VW Thing ♥️). I thought it would be fun on the cover of the summer magazine so on our last evening there, at ten minutes to 8pm (sun was going down) I looked at everyone and said let's try this! My friend @billyjackbrawner3 (guy in the popsicle shirt) had to run ten minutes from where we were staying and ask in broken Spanish if we could borrow the car. After trying to start it multiple times, he realized it wasn't going to start so he then had to ask if we could borrow another car and tow it. Meanwhile I'm throwing on this dress and putting my beach frizzed hair in a bun and applying lots of layers of blush and eyeliner so I could look somewhat photo ready. BJ made it back with that little white car and we had two minutes to snap a shot before it was too dark for a decent photo. He asked his wife Sara (her story is a must read in this issue) to assist him as she was juggling holding her baby and a couple of wide angled lenses. Directly behind BJ were my girls and their friends who had just found a puppy and they were begging me to keep it, "Mommy pleaaaaaasse look it's sooooo cute!! Mommy why can't we take it back to Texas????" I'm yelling back at them "Put that puppy down!!! Go inside and wash your hands, you could get ringworm!!". By the time we were finished it was dark and we just assumed it was fun trying but the probabilities of the photo actually making the cover were really slim simply because we hadn't planned for it with all the fancy hair and makeup and professional lighting. Every time I see this picture I smile because I love everything about what had to happen to get this one shot. It was chaotic, rushed, and hilarious but look! It made the cover. And there you have it… now you know the rest of the story #magnoliajournal

In May, the star was equally transparent when she took readers behind the glam scenes of her cover shoot for the Magnolia Journal, writing on Instagram that, while the Mexico-based photo session looked breezy and elegant, the published image was chaotic, with last-minute styling and “frizzed” hair.

It goes to show that if Gaines was looking for a second career, we’d all be the first ones to know.
